What is Pilates?
It is an effective form of physical and mental conditioning for individuals with varying degrees of fitness. It is a
gentle, yet powerful form of exercise that facilitates strength, flexibility, and wellness.
What should I wear to a Pilates class?
Comfortable, stretchy, fitted clothing works best that allows freedom of movement.
What does it take to get started?
A willing attitude and patience. Pilates is not a “quick fix”, although you may have a feeling of wellness after
only a few sessions.
Will Pilates cause me to bulk up?
There are no Pilates exercises that will enable you to gain bulk. You might find definition, but not bulk.
Why is a Pilates private session so cheap?
It’s not! One-on-one sessions will cost you (more or less depending on the location of the studio you’re
attending.) Duets, trios, and group classes are less expensive, but less personal.
How much extra weight can I add to the Pilates equipment?
The Pilates equipment uses springs for resistance, not weights. Different combinations of springs will provide
varying levels of resistance—your trainer will help you make the right selection. And, heavier springs are not
always the right way to go. Sometimes an exercise is more challenging with less assistance.
I’m not in great shape and don’t like to exercise. Will Pilates work for me?
It’s not for everyone, but often people who have never been physically active will find they enjoy pilates and
what it does for their body.
I’m in great shape, a PTA mom, work full time, and volunteer—will Pilates
work for me?
Definitely, if you can find the time to include it in your busy schedule. It teaches the mind/body to focus and
